FREE CUT RGB

By Nicolas Sassoon

FREE CUT RGB was created in 2015 in reference to one of my first series of animated GIFs, titled FREE CUTS. FREE CUTS were conceived as animated studies for a sculpture project, but eventually, the animations became the sculptures. This initial series marked a very important moment in my work where I decided to embrace digital animation as my main medium rather than as a step towards another medium. FREE CUT RGB revisits this early series to give it a more tridimensional presence. The work uses pure RGB colors in reference to 3D markers in 3D rendering software, as well as in reference to matrix displays and and the physical making of pixels; built out of RGB diodes.

Artwork info: 840 x 840 pixels (variable dimensions), 144 frames, 4 colors, 25 fps, 2015-2021. Available in various sizes & formats in GIF & mp4. This work isn't part of a series.
