Treehouse 2

By Nicolas Sassoon

Treehouse 2 is a digital animation of a rudimentary architecture made of wooden boards, constructed on top of a dead tree. The animation was created in January 2022, in response to feelings of isolation and information overload, as well as a form of reflection on radical alternatives inspired by post-apocalyptic science-fiction literature, films and video games. Tree houses can be traced back to more than 40.000 years ago in human history, they represent one of the first forms of human architecture. They take different meanings depending on the context they are found; from survival shelters to recreational structures. Symbolically, tree houses represent a desire to return to a form of innocence or independence, an escape from society or from an urban environment. The figure of the tree house resonates with many of our contemporary yearnings: a closer proximity with nature, a higher level of autonomy, a simpler and more essential lifestyle.
