βBonding with woodβ collection
This series of works was done with oils on recycled wood panels. The wood had been used as shipping crates and was abandoned outside a factory. I brought it to my studio and began transforming it into smooth box-like painting structures, after which I began the process of painting. The material has a history, as evidenced by the marks on its surface. The wood grain is testament to its past state as a living tree, while the scratches, striations and holes are signs of the industrial phase of its existence where it travelled around the world before reaching me. I am influenced by both the natural formations and man made marks on the wood itself during painting, accentuating and developing them with my brushes. Through varied processes of chance and intention a hidden structure emerges and the unknown is given a form. These works have been on a journey of transformation and now they are here in their digital state.
